AIDS in Africa – Orphans and Education

May 9th, 2012 by admin No comments »

The AIDS Monster in Africa is clearly raging out of control and it is taking its toll killing so many, as this happens children are being born with AIDS and children’s parents are dying leaving them orphaned. The challenges seem nearly impossible to fix and yet there is a glimmer of hope from some very smart and innovative groups.

Groups like KENWA are using a multi-faceted approach to solving this crisis by working in small community villages. The millions facing sure death is almost an overwhelming catastrophe, but by setting precedence and showing that their model has a proven success rate.

Yet they realize that even if they are able to stop AIDS in these villages from spreading that there are also issues with sustainable agriculture and education to deal with as well. Education will help in breaking the cultural norms and preventing AIDS, but also primary education too is needed for the children who will soon be running things as the older folks have died or are dying of AIDS?

Then there is the issue of the Digital Divide a chasm which is hard to cross when these regions have no power or electricity either. Perhaps you have heard of the $100 computers that MIT is working on, these can be used for the classrooms and yes schools need to be built too. Prefab pop-up construction technologies and simple dome shaped houses are available.

It seems it is possible and once this model is proven then KENWA will have something that can be used to solve the problems of the continent.

I certainly hope this article is of interest and that is has propelled thought. The goal is simple; to help you in your quest to be the best in 2007. I thank you for reading my many articles on diverse subjects, which interest you.

Trauma: Continuing Education For Psychotherapists

May 7th, 2012 by admin No comments »

When it comes to psychologists and psychiatrists, few things are as important as keeping up with advancements in the field of trauma. Continuing education means seeking out the latest available literature, taking classes, and learning at the feet of those at the head of the research. As with any science, psychotherapy is a growing field. New knowledge becomes part of the tapestry every day and those professionals who fail to keep up with that knowledge do so at their own peril, and the peril of their patients.

With issues such as trauma, continuing education can help mental health professionals find new and more effective ways to treat their patients. While it is important that any psychotherapist finds his own philosophy and his own methodology when it comes to both treatment and research, it shouldn’t be done at the exclusion of an open mind. Science loses its power when it is not continually built upon, with new ideas and contested old ideas paving the pathway to the future. For instance, a doctor can have a Freudian approach to his practice, but that shouldn’t mean sticking strictly to the teachings of Dr. Freud exclusively.

There are a number of ways a mental health professional can continue to learn following their primary education. Classes are given in every state and district, encouraging any professional to not only expand their knowledge for their own sake, but for the sake of getting re-licensed according to the laws of their area. For those workers for whom attending classes is a hardship, there are a number of online learning programs available, many of them offering the same opportunities when it comes to getting credit for a licensing program. Some people learn better this way, with the opportunity to read the material at their own pace and at a time that is convenient to them.

There are also sites online that host lectures and post the latest writings from some of the masters in the field of psychotherapy, letting doctors and other mental health professionals listen in on new and advanced concepts. There are sometimes online communities built around these sites, which can provide an even greater opportunity to learn and share new information with other professionals. A wise man once said, “The day you stop learning is the day you start dying.” To ward off this untimely death, find as many sources of information as you can and drink deeply from each of them.

Self-Directed Learning – Reach Your Maximum Potential by Pursuing a Vibrant Lifelong Education

When it comes to education, most of us would probably think of the first 12 school years and possibly a college degree.

Although some professions require lifelong learning, most of us would consider these early years as our primary educational experience in life.

After graduation that season is considered completed and the vast majority never bothers with a formal education anymore.

Afterwards all of us, in a greater or lesser degree, keep on pursuing new areas of knowledge, but even then most of us are completely unaware of the tremendous learning potential we have. And therefore we never tap into it.

We never reach our maximum potential either because we get so caught up in other issues of life, or we just get too comfortable to keep on developing ourselves.

Many people get to a point where they consider what they know to be good enough for where they are at right now. And that is as far as they’ll get. They have lost their vision for life and have become hopelessly stagnant.

But it is a common known fact that successful people never stop educating themselves with self-directed learning. They aggressively pursue an education that will propel them forward in their specific area of interest. They are constantly growing and developing themselves.

Success is not an entitlement, it takes an extra effort to step out and pursue that dream God put in your heart. But it is possible for everyone.

It is also immensely invigorating and powerfully life-changing. When a person acquires vision for his or her future and chooses to develop the talents and skills God gave them with self-directed learning, the result will always be a successful and fulfilled life.
